My students are absolutely amazing! They are in a Chinese immersion program. Each day they come to school ready to learn with smiles on their faces.
My students are highly motivated learners who demonstrate a strong desire to learn.
They are learning Chinese, Science, and Math in Mandarin with me.
Less than 1% of our students are from Chinese native speaking families. In other words, 99% of our students are not only learning the second language, but using the second language to learn other subjects such as math and science. Our classroom is the only place for them to learn Chinese language and culture. We treasure the time we have at school.
My Project
Students have a small tote that they put both Chinese and English materials in and they are having a hard time finding the correct materials in both classes. Students only have 2 hours and 20 minutes in each class and some of the students are spending extra time looking for learning materials and the whole class has to wait for all students to have the correct material before we start or teachers have to spend extra to make extra copy for the students who can't find the learning material in their tote.
When we line up to switch between two classes, some of the students are having a hard time carrying the tote and their other personal belonging.
Dropping totes is causing daily chaos in the hallway. It also creates a loud noise which disturbs other classes around us.
Our students need to have two separate baskets, one in Chinese and one in English class. They can put all their learning material in the basket and they do not need to take it with them when they switch class. It will save them time and create a quieter line up outside in the hallway.
My English partner and I will use the baskets for many years to come. It will also benefit all future students.
