This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in a low socioeconomic area with disadvantaged students located in the inner city of Atlanta, GA. Many students are not provided with the resources needed for academic success due to the challenges of poverty and low parental involvement.
Despite challenges outside of the classroom, my students still come to school eager to learn.
This is what makes them special. As they walk through the doors of our school each morning, they pledge to do their best. My number one goal is to provide them with the necessary tools that will help them succeed and reach their full potential. They are the future and deserve a quality education.
My Project
My goal is for all students to have something on their stomachs in the morning before they start the day. It is extremely challenging for students to learn on an empty stomach. Unfortunately, some students are tardy and miss breakfast at school. Most of these healthy snacks will allow them to eat something when they enter class. Other snacks will be used before they go home for the day. Kindergarten students are the first group to eat in the morning (10:00am), therefore students are hungry again by the time dismissal starts. Some may have to wait a very long time before receiving dinner or the parents may not be able to provide a snack before dinner. Furthermore, the laundry detergent will be used to wash uniforms for those who may have restroom accidents during the day.
