This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I want my fifth graders to get caught up in a good book: wondering what happens next, picturing the story, and wanting to keep reading. I'm requesting 30 hardcover copies of Doll Bones by Holly Black so I can share a read-aloud rich in vocabulary and imagination, with a little Halloween twist.

A good read-aloud can help a child fall in love with reading.

Hearing a story come to life can make unfamiliar words feel less intimidating and open the door to books they might not pick up on their own. I want my students to experience the excitement of getting lost in a story, imagining what comes next, and discovering that reading can be something they genuinely look forward to.

The mysterious doll and spooky adventure give us that Halloween feeling while opening up conversations about friendship, courage, and growing up. My goal is to use that curiosity to inspire my students to reach for more good books, discover new words, and let their imaginations wander.

I'm choosing hardcovers so I can use this class set again with future students. Your support will help me put a lasting reading resource in my classroom and share the excitement of a good story, one read-aloud at a time.
