Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are fun! They are high energy teenagers from countries around the world, like the Dominican Republic, Sudan, and Burma. And as typical teens, they love chatting, getting to know each other, and sharing personal cultural experiences. And I love being a part of their lives.

Our ESL class runs the same as a traditional English class, with a curriculum that engages them in high-order reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.

As we work to hone their English Language skills, we also build a sense of community and a safe place for learning.

My Project

Cutbacks, lack of time, decreased manpower, and more. These are all reasons our classroom wouldn't pass my mother-in-law's white glove test. Teachers are responsible for cleaning our own classrooms (the only thing we don't need to do is take out the garbage, but even the recycling is on us).

My students want a space they feel comfortable in, somewhere they won't catch germs, pass bacteria, or breath in the flu.

They are completely willing to chip in and help maintain classroom cleanliness. We just need the supplies to help this happen. We will use the materials on "Wipedown Wednesdays"--the day our school nurses want us sanitize the student desks, computers, door handles, phones, and other surfaces. While we are asked to do this, we are not given the supplies to take care of it. We can also clean the white board (which stains easily) and sweep the floors. The students can clean up after themselves with the wipes and the sanitizer.

Specifically, we will use the Magic Erasers on the board, the desks, and other surfaces on conjunction with the spray cleaner. The Expo cleaner will also be used on the board. The broom and dust pan will be used to clean litter from the floor. Some of the wipes will be used on the laptops, while the others can be used for spot cleaning. The disinfectant spray will be used liberally. And the hand sanitiizer will help keep germs from spreading in the first place (fingers crossed!).
