This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are all individuals; no two are alike. Within them lie many differences. Some are louder, some quieter. Some have a tendency to wander way outside of the box while others linger closer to it. They know no race, level of intelligence, or economic status.
Despite their differences, they are all aware that they have one thing in common: they all belong to an amazing classroom community that thrives each minute of each day.
Together, as a class, they break down barriers to become better people and students.
My Project
As an adult, we have the luxury of being able to scroll on our phones for news updates, grab a piece of print media, or turn on our preferred news channel of choice. We also have the ability to sort through and process this news whether it be good or bad.
The world is changing drastically every single day.
Currently, my children have no way with keeping up with the changing times aside from technology. I want my children to each have a copy of a Scholastic Magazine that they can read and enjoy in their own.
Not only will I be able to spiral all standards of learning into this one magazine, but I will also be able to turn my classroom into a global one as we read, learn, discuss, and debate things that are happening behind our own walls.
The news has always been a reminder for me that the world is a giant place that needs all the good people it can get. With this grant, I will be able to instill this same idea into my students all while improving their reading skills.
