Newly Opened Autistic Support Classroom

Help me give my students items such as a magnetic mobile whiteboard for our newly opened autistic support classroom. We need many things to support our school day. Items to help sensory needs and to make learning fun.

My Project

I will be teaching in an Autistic Support classroom next school year. This is a brand new classroom to my school district. My special education director along with myself worked hard to get our district to approve opening it. A brand new classroom requires many items. A classroom that supports students with autism requires more than a typical classroom.

The Autistic Support classroom will not only meet the academic needs of students, but also their sensory needs!

The velcro and lamination will ensure that each student has their own daily visual schedule so that they know what their day holds. This helps to lessen the anxiety of the unknown. The play doh will allow for fine motor work as well as allow them to help calm themselves when they are having moments of anxiety.

The stylus' will allow them to use iPads with more ease as well as give them the opportunity to practice a pencil holding grasp. Learning on iPads increases student engagement. The mobile whiteboard will allow students opportunities to use magnetic manipulatives as well as a place to stand and practice their handwriting skills. Students will have fun manipulating the mini erasers during free choice fine motor time. They will be able to use their imaginations to create stories to go along with the erasers.
