This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Trenton, New Jersey, is (and this is amazing!) a sanctuary city. Students from nations all over the world immigrate to Trenton with their families. The city, although economically poor in many areas, is rich in cultures and heritage from all corners of the world. We have a growing population of Hispanic immigrants, most speaking their native language Spanish. Many of our students, both native and nonnative to Trenton, struggle to meet basic health and hygiene needs each day.
I wish to alleviate one of the many stressors that young women experience each month by providing my freshmen ladies in need with black leggings.
I remember the panicked feeling of forgetting my pads or tampons at home. It can do much more than ruin an entire day. Imagine being a young girl, already dealing with social pressures, and having to suddenly cope with the dreaded red stain during class. I don't want any of the young women at our school to ever experience that world of embarrassment.
These basic leggings will go a long way in helping our girls feel safe and cared for! Not only will these support girls during stressful times of month, they will also provide immigrant students in need with clean clothes. Thank you for your support!
