My Students

I teach a wonderful group of students in grades 9-12 with special needs. Some of my students have Down's Syndrome, autism, and learning disabilities. My students are making great progress every year in their classes, as well as occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech therapy.

Students take reading, math, science, job skills, life skills, and social studies classes.

They love great books, hands-on activities, and field trips that go with our lessons. My students are kind, respectful, and hardworking. We work hard and have fun at the same time!

My Project

My government class for students with special needs always learns about the three branches of government. I’ve found that students don’t relate to how the government is involved in their lives. Scholastic’s New York Times Upfront makes today's most important news stories relevant to students.

Every issue features thought-provoking national and international news stories that get teens thinking and talking about current events, history, civics, and the economy.

Featuring complex informational texts, primary sources, and lesson plans, every issue also builds the ELA skills my students need. Subscriptions include full access to Upfront Online featuring digital issues, videos, rigorous skills sheets, and much more.

With this Scholastic Magazine, my students will have a better understanding of the world around them. We will use the articles to discuss local and national government, as well as governments around the world. I am very excited to give my students this opportunity!
