Each day, the students come into their class period and grab their \"wallet\" and make their purchases, utilizing their discounts to their best advantage! \r\n\r\nLast week, one student and I spent 5 minutes counting out her change and deciding how much money she had. She then needed to make a decision about whether to save or spend. This particular student has NEVER saved before. She likes an immediate gratification each day, and when she runs out of money she is sad, but learns that pay day is not every day. I have recently introduced hand made crochet animals into the store that I make at home as a hobby. They are a hit!! This student has been absolutely dying for a crochet animal, but since they are so expensive (the equivalent of 5 bags of cheez- its), she would have to save up to be able to buy one. Last week, she made the conscious decision to save up her money instead of buying a snack. I cannot express to you all how proud and excited I was for that growth in her!! It has taken 2 years of this process, but she has finally followed a budget and made a decision to save for something she really wants instead of spending immediately. It was one of those moments that made me remember why I put in all of this extra work and why you all grace us with donations.
