For the past several years, our students have been engaged in becoming a culture of thinkers, a place where a group’s collective as well as individual thinking is valued, visible, and actively promoted as part of the regular, day-to-day experience of all group members. We recently adopted the Leader In Me program that helps teach our students leadership, accountability, adaptability, initiative, and self-direction, cross-cultural skills, responsibility, problem-solving, communication, creativity, and teamwork.
Our classroom of thinkers are the leaders of the leaders.
They are burdened not only by being the model learners for their younger brothers, sisters, cousins, and friends who look up to them, but they also are on the verge of one of the biggest transitions of their lives as they prepare to enter the middle school with their 600 new classmates.
My Project
With the new school year beginning, it is always a challenge to keep the classroom as organized and efficiently running for as long as possible. There is a lot of strategy that goes into keeping 20+ learners clutter-free. These tools will go a long way towards making sure that students take ownership of our learning environment and our classroom library.
When students take ownership of something, it gives them a sense of pride in making sure that they are contributing members.
They want to be in a learning space that let's them feel as though they belong. Because they do.
