My students need a restocking of some basic classroom supplies and new instructional items such as a table top magnetic board to fit in the smaller classroom I’m moving into this year.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students I serve are in beautiful South Florida. The majority of them come from households that are categorized to be at or below poverty levels. Most of the families do not speak English as a first language. They also are often illiterate themselves, having fled their home countries for better opportunities here in the United States. This challenges myself to think of new ways to help not only my students to succeed, but also their families to be able to support their education at home.
Half of the students in my classroom have learning or developmental disabilities.
Those students have personalized educational plans that I help to create along with other staff members to ensure they receive the best strategies and learning techniques. My students come to school with little more than the will to learn and an open heart. They inspire me to always learn new ways and resources to give them the best chance possible to succeed.
My Project
Every school year brings changes. The biggest change for this upcoming school year for me will be moving into a new classroom after 9 years in my previous room. The process of packing and evaluating all the materials I have was an opportunity to know what supplies I am low on, need to replenish, and use to reorganize my classroom.
In addition, this new classroom, I’m moving to is smaller in size and forces me to reorganize the space I have to teach in to accommodate all my students and the normal literacy activities I do with them.
I am asking for a restocking of consumable materials and organizational and literacy resources. Colored copy paper is used for important letters that are sent home to students. Colored file folders are used to create file folder activities and for student portfolios. Alphabet stamps and ink pads are used daily in my literacy centers and with normal wear and use need to be replaced every few years.
This smaller classroom has less space around the desks and no built in counters to set up independent learning centers during my literacy block. Activities that students are able to set up and use at their desks, such as the “Sequence and Write Story Tiles” allow them to build skills within a more confined space. The table top “Magnetic Write Board” is a tool that both students and myself can use during instruction and doesn’t take up a lot of space like a floor easel would. The “Privacy Partitions” are needed because during assessments I no longer have enough space to spread out students the way I used to in a bigger classroom. And finally the “Turned In Work Organizer” will also allow me to organize student work while taking up minimal space.
