My Students
I teach at a small elementary school in San Francisco. My third grade students are creative, curious, and incredibly loving! I had the amazing opportunity of teaching most of these students last school year during the pandemic. And let me tell you, they truly showed up! Every morning I would be greeted on Zoom by so many shining faces ready to learn. My students had so many hurdles thrown at them such as being asked to LEARN while at home with younger siblings, televisions, phones, dogs, cats, you name it! And despite it all, they persevered and pushed themselves to be the best scholars they could be.
This school year, my hope is to bring new prizes and rewards into my classroom in order to positively reinforce good work and behavior.
My Project
These materials will help positively reinforce all of the good behaviors I see from my students! I've noticed that when I reward my students with small prizes, they feel recognized and accomplished! They feel proud of themselves and want to continue to work hard and learn more! With this in mind, I want to make sure I'm well prepared for a full year of learning and encouragement! By keeping track of the actions of my students (including: staying on task, participating, putting in effort, asking questions, helping others, and being a leader) I will be able to "catch my students doing the right thing!" and reward them at the end of each week if they earn enough "stars" that represent their celebrated behaviors. I have noticed that these particular students get really excited about earning small prizes (such as stickers, stress balls, and play dough that they can take home with them) and students push themselves further in their studies by trying hard, helping others, and asking questions when they are confused with new material. In addition, sensory tools will help my students relax and learn how to self soothe when they become overly stimulated or need a brain break.
