Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is full of 29 energetic second grade students. A typical day in our classroom is full of math, science, reading, and writing. Our classroom is full of different ability levels so we spend most of our day in centers so that each student gets lessons that they need on their level.
The school I work in is a Title I school where 100% of my students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.
Many of the students come from low income families. More than 95% of my students are minorities. A majority of the students are English Language Learners (ELL). Despite these issues, my students love to learn!
My Project
Teaching in a city with drastic financial differences makes the beginning of the school year very difficult. Students may come in with too many supplies, students may come in with some supplies and some students come in with no supplies at all.
With your donations I will be able to give students the supplies they need to be successful in the second grade!
Just like with their uniforms now everyone will have the same pencils, the same pencil case and the same folders. When they have one color folder for everything it makes life easy because instead of hunting for the folder that says math on it, I can just say take out your RED folder!
Having all these supplies set for the students and labeled makes the beginning of the school year less stressful and they feel more welcomed!
