My Project

I am excited to be a teacher librarian at an amazing school. In a world where many libraries are being pushed away, my administrator calls our library the heart of the school. My goal in the library is to create life-long readers and prepare our students for the future.

Our kindergarten-fifth grade school is filled with motivated, passionate, and eager students who I hope will love spending time in the library.

Our school serves a diverse student population, including many English Language Learners and at-risk students. Many of my students come from low income households and do not have books to read at home. We strive to give our students every advantage and opportunity we can. A school library is an essential resource for all children and I would love our library to be an exciting place buzzing with excitement about authors and books.

Teaching in a library provides many opportunities to craft lessons that meet the needs of our current students and tie their learning to not only library standards, but also standards in their classroom as well. Each year I do some of my most tried and true lessons, but also like to spice things up by adding new books, new lessons, and new tools to make our library a fun and exciting place to learn. Adding the books from this project to our library collection will do just that!

The list of books in this project includes books I can use as a springboard for many library lessons. They will allow me to teach research and notetaking skills, hit on social studies and science concepts, and collaborate with each grade level to teach some language arts standards. These new books will help me to create new lessons and get a great start to our school year!
