Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In 2017-2018, I will be working as a Master Teacher in a mixed-age classroom. My school is located in a low-income urban area, and more than 90% of students receive free lunch. My classroom will be a mixed grade level setting, and I will be working purposefully to meet the needs of students by identifying skills that they struggle with and implementing instruction to meet individual needs as an intervention.
The students will have longer days and attend a summer program to prevent regression and provide additional time for intensive instruction.
My goal for my students is to help them identify skills that they need to work on, identify strengths, and provide hands-on, fun, inquiry-based instruction based on student learning styles. I also want them to create their goals and provide opportunities to celebrate success as well as provide students with enough support to transition them to their grade level class.
My Project
I am requesting a new color printer for my classroom because unfortunately a week ago my six year old Canon color printer died and stopped working which is unfortunate because I use the printer daily to print books in color from Reading A-Z.
This current semester I am introducing students to Non-Fiction text features and text during reading lessons and the color pictures help make the instruction more realistic and the visuals help English Language Learners and struggling readers which is why I need a new color printer as soon as possible.
I am also requesting storage bins to store resources for each of our thematic units, and to help organize centers and books used daily in our classroom. As an International Baccalaureate School one of the Learner Profiles is being Organized, and I feel I must models this in my class. It's a new year and as I shared with my students the first week back, my new years resolution is to be more organized and these bins will help!
