Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend a Title I charter school in Houston, Texas where nearly 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Despite facing hardships and adversity, my students are committed to becoming high school-ready and college-bound, eager to learn, and always giving one hundred percent.

While our community has experienced so much devastation as a result of a recent armed intruder event, Hurricane Harvey, and Winter Storm Uri (on top of the pandemic that rocked the world), our students have a determination to succeed.

As a result of their determination to succeed, I am tasked with the responsibility of providing a safe, yet productive, environment. Together, we will build the class community where everyone can grow, is loved, and where mistakes are welcomed, because they help us grow.

My Project

As we welcome this new year, 2022, students often anticipate a fresh start, a renewed energy, and a thirst for improvement. Who am I to stand in their way?

These books will be used to help fill the shelves of the classroom library with more diversity, new topics, and the same message of building empathy and compassion for others.

As we rapidly approach the end of the school year, it is critical for students to develop consistent reading habits to sustain them. In order for me to appeal to their inner book worms, these books will be used to provide variety and an element of new-ness to create excitement and motivation.
