Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am honored to teach a wonderful population of students. A majority of the students are English Language Learners (ELL), and my school serves as a host school for refugees coming from various places.
I look forward to every day with my students, embracing the wonderful differences and experiences they each bring.
I want my students to know they are valued, loved, and safe when they come into the classroom. I strive to model and teach growth mindset so each kiddo knows that their potential is limitless.
My Project
I loved going back to school because it meant I got to pick out a new outfit for the first day! This was important to me, since I had a large family and usually wore hand-me-downs.
Many of the kiddos at my school cannot afford new clothes for the school year.
We have a uniform standard at our school, and many of our kiddos show up the first day using the worn out uniform from their older sibling.
I want to have a "shopping center" during Meet The Teacher night, where my students can pick out a new shirt and pair of socks to start the year off right. Not worrying about how they will look on the first day of school will help their confidence and excitement for that new experience of being in 4th grade!
