My Students

I teach 24 brilliant young scholars who come from a variety of different backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses. Approximately 50% of the students at my school qualify for free/reduced lunch. My school is a Title I school. We celebrate our differences and use them to learn about each other and grow as learners. My students love the flexible seating opportunities they have in my classroom and they love to be hands on!

In our class, we refer to ourselves as a classroom family.

Being kind, tiny humans is our #1 goal in 1st grade.

My Project

A classroom carpet is more than just a decoration, it truly benefits students. While students are learning, they want to be comfy! They want to be in a classroom that is warm and inviting. This is one way that students benefit from having a classroom carpet. My favorite thing about having a classroom carpet is that is helps with classroom management. It gives students their own space so they can be successful.

In my classroom, my current carpet only seats 16 students, which is not big enough for the 24 students I will be welcoming in a few short weeks.

It was a challenge last year when I had 19 students, so I know that adding 5 more students will pose an even bigger challenge. Not only do my students use the carpet for whole group instruction, but they also use it during group work, read to self time, math games, etc. In my classroom, my students are often given a choice of where they want to sit based on where they think they can be their best learning self. I want to give them as many choices as I can in order to help them be successful.
