Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our sixth grade students are great kiddos, who need to be shown that there is so much to experience outside this little town in Southwest Texas. This is a small community where it's safe to say that the majority of students are not well-traveled. What they know is basically what they see here.
I want my kids to come to school each day to learn new things and challenge themselves to want more out of life, and strive to fulfill their every ambition.
They should know that they don't have to settle for mediocre. They can work to achieve the best kind of lifestyle their educated minds can imagine.
Some of my kids come to school unprepared and embarrassed by how little they have and focus on that more than on their academics. Each and every child in my classroom has the potential for doing greatness and that potential should not be broken down by circumstances that they have no control over. Teachers should provide a learning environment that nurtures and motivates students to desire greatness.
My Project
My kids deserve to have a comfortable learning environment. My classroom is limited in space and difficult to move around for hands-on activities. Rather than having a giant shelf that takes up half a wall in my room, to which the binders only take up half the space of that shelf, a two-shelf binder storage that can be placed in a corner and can make a huge difference by not taking up much classroom space.
I'd like my kids to focus on the importance of their education and limit the amount of stress or embarrassment some kids get from not having supplies.
Having basic supplies readily available for these kids will keep them from falling behind or feeling discouraged. They can take comfort in knowing that supplies will not be an obstacle in their education.
I want my students to rise, not settle. I want them to want, even demand, more out of life because they are worth it, without being afraid to express themselves. Setting up the classroom with motivational decor evident anywhere they look will hopefully inspire them.
