This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are a Title I school with 100% free breakfast and lunch. We are a newly combined school with 1,100 students. The majority of my students come from neighborhoods that are struck with high poverty. Some of my students are English language learners and some are special education. My students really learn to love school and learning! But many come with challenges. They are below grade level as early as kindergarten. We have a tough job when we have to teach students their names when they don't even know their alphabets, but we overcome those obstacles with a lot of love, discipline, and hard work.
My Project
When my students return to school, they are going to need new school supplies. During this distant learning time, students have used what supplies they have at home, and parents have not been able to get out and buy their children new supplies.
I have high hopes of returning to school this school year, and I would love for my students to have new crayons, scissors, glue sticks, and other basic supplies to have a fresh start.
My students come from homes with financial barriers that make it hard for some to purchase the requests made by teachers for school supplies let alone supplies such as Kleenex and Hand Sanitizer. My students need these supplies, and your donation will be used every day. We will use the school supplies such as the pencil erasers, post-it notes, and pens in class daily during math, science, social studies, and language arts. The calendars will help keep us organized daily.
