My students need some basic necessities to get us through the school year. Notebooks, colored pencils, and highlighters will really help us start this school year off on the right foot.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Vibrant, excited, noisy, and diligent describe the learners you'll meet when you walk through the door of Mrs. R.'s second-grade class. You may find a student working on a bright red chair, or wobbling on one of our cool wobble stools. Although, in our class students work in whatever place they find the most comfortable, our expectation of high achievement for all is always the same. Our class is made up of a multi-ethnic population of learners with a zest for life and a love of learning. Our class population is made up of students who are English language learners as well as students receiving special education services.
My Project
Something as simple as Astrobrights colored paper can bring life to a project created by a student. An Amazon Basics three-ring binder that a parent was unable to purchase off the supply list means so much to a child when everyone else has one. This also allows for organization of homework folders, agenda calendars, and serves as a way of communication between home in school.
Although the materials listed for this project may seem basic they are extremely important.
New BAZIC bright colored three ring pencil bags will be great for pencil wars, a weekly game we play in the classroom. Every Monday students start the week with 8 pencils. If they have their 8 pencils by the end of the week they receive a small prize like an eraser or sticker. If they do not I replace the missing pencils, and they try to earn their prize the following week. The problem is I have been using the same bags for about 6 years, and by the end of this past school year, the nylon bags finally began to disintegrate. Duct tape was our friend as the year came to a close.
Being that we are a flexible seating classroom the students do not have a desk. We have tables and other interesting options for seating. The 2 pack premium pocket chart for unfinished work is a much better option for storing unfinished student work. Prior to this, we used ziplock bags and duct tape to tape them to a door in the classroom, but I quickly learned that duct tape doesn't adhere nearly as well in a hot classroom in the warmer months.
As simple as the items need are, they are also very important to assist students in starting the year right.
