Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are eager, active, and ready to explore emerging technologies! They are excited to use technology, but as school finances dwindle, it has become increasingly difficult to purchase the materials necessary to provide a more diverse and challenging learning experience.
My students come from many different neighborhoods in a large urban area, and are both racially and economically diverse.
They are part of a K-8 school that values individual differences and supports students as they prepare for high school, college, and changing the world.
My Project
Imagine primary students’ exclamations as the rotation of the earth comes to life through their augmented reality Merge Cube. Imagine intermediate students connecting Aztec and Mayan ruins viewed through their ClassVR headsets to the settings described in the myths they are reading. Then imagine them creating a virtual museum of ancient Egyptian artifacts that can be viewed with a Merge Cube. Imagine middle school students with the Theta camera in their neighborhood or on their annual trip to Washington, D.C., creating 360-degree images that will be used to build a Google Tour.
My students will not only experience, but become creators of AR and VR content and experiences through this project.
Even though we are beginning the school year remotely, the AR and VR materials that comprise this project can also be used at home. Augmented reality and virtual reality (AR/VR) technologies will enable all our students to have access to engaging and immersive experiences that are unique to these specific technologies and critical to the future of jobs in math and science
