My students need PE equipment. I have started my PE programs from scratch. There was no PE teacher here before I got hired at my school, and I started off with a very limited amount of equipment.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a K-8 School, in one of the most dangerous parts of Sacramento, CA. A portion of my school is either homeless or in foster care. A lot of my students come to school wearing dirty clothes, some with a lot of holes it. They grow up in an area where there is constant gang violence. A lot of them can not afford to participate in extra-curricular activities, such as sports or music. They are good students, and are just living in a tough part of town.
My Project
These items will allow me teach more activities besides the traditional physical activities like basketball, football, and soccer. Some of the things on my wish lists are essentials for a successful PE program. I have some good old fashioned playground balls on my list, because so many of the activities I want to teach can be used with these. I can use it for team handball, kicket (Cricket and kickball combined), and so many other games/activites. For the shuttlecocks, I have them play a traditional brazilian game that is like volleyball and badminton combined, where you have to use your hands instead of a racquet. For the flag football belts, I have so many activities planned, that I can use them for, besides flag football. I teach them rugby with the belts. I can do some fitness games with them as well. I have very few pennies and I only have them in 2 colors, blue and yellow. They are also for 1st-3rd graders. My 6th, 7th, and 8th graders have a hard time putting those on. It also helps me organize them into teams faster and easier. If I say team 1 or team 4, some students might not remember what team they are on half way through class, so they might go to the wrong team. If I can just say yellow team and blue team over here, it will be a lot easier, because they will just have to look at what they are wearing.
