Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are quite creative and enjoy a wide variety of artistic opportunities. They enjoy coming to the Art room and discovering new ways to express themselves, as well as, learning about various artists and media.
The students are quite socio-economically diverse (our poverty level is over 75%); many do not have the basic art supplies or areas to create at home.
I strive to provide a variety of opportunities to experience different media and techniques, along with including social, cultural, and historical references. I like to coordinate many units with their core classroom learning, allowing the students to see how art is everywhere.
My Project
It has been hard to replace materials with limited school budgets that are being stretched to fund the essentials to provide quality education to all students. I'm privileged to see all the students in my art classroom.
Many of our colored pencils and chalks are old and broken, it will be exciting to my students to have replacements/upgrades of these materials.
I like to use watercolor paper with all my students; the quality paper enhances the quality of their artwork. Quality materials will encourage and empower students within their creative process. My students are encouraged to explore, discover, imagine, create.
