My Students

This is my first class ever, and first year in first grade. I have many bright, bubbly, and compassionate students in my class. We have a wide range of students, some performing above grade level, while some are struggling to read. In our small town, many students come from low-income households and unfortunately do not have access to books at home. I want to provide a fun, meaningful, and FULL classroom library set for my students who are willing and ready to read! Every day my students ask if they can read to me, and I would love to see the look on their face if they saw all of these books in the classroom, JUST for them!

My Project

Reading is difficult enough, and having to choose from old, worn out books doesn't make it any easier. As a first year teacher, I have a small classroom library that has mostly hand-me-down and outdated books. I have a large number of struggling readers in my classroom, and I think I can change that with providing fresh, new, and engaging books for my students to read!

I believe all it takes is one book to capture the heart of a student, and spark a love for reading.

At our school, we use the accelerated reader program. This provides incentives for students who work towards a reading goal. These books would give my students many more AR books to read and this will help motivate them to learn to read!
