it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My high school art students love to paint. They are eager to experiment with art. I'm a high school art teacher in Los Angeles. This year I have 220 students on my roster. I teach 9th-12th grade students. Some of my students have never taken a painting class before. At the beginning of the school year, many of them were intimidated by paint, paint brushes, and all the traditional tools used in the medium. But by painting regularly they have gained confidence and have made tremendous improvements. Now they are excited to take on new projects.
Our class recently had a field trip to the Getty Villa Museum.
It was great to see them immerse themselves into classical art. When we returned to the classroom, my students were eager to paint. They said that seeing great art inspired them. They recently finished painting project that was a hybrid of Abstract and Realistic art. It was inspiring to see my students experiment with different materials and colors.
I encourage my students to learn about a variety of styles and art movements so they can find ones they can connect with. When they make connections with art, it's easier for them to find their own styles too.
