As a new teacher, I have been blessed with the gift of beginning my teaching career, surrounded by seventh-grade students. Their creative minds and ecstatic personalities make every day unique, and its own. In a sixth through eighth-grade middle school, my seventh-grade students are the "middle-man" of the school and continue to be role models and leaders for others around their school (academically and with high values). They have many years of academic growth and emotional challenges, yet will soon get more responsibility and knowledge moving to high school, giving them the wondrous life of leadership and learning.
As a seventh-grade English/Language Arts and Social Studies teacher, my classroom is a world full of passionate learners and readers that come from low-income housing and are on the hunt for inspiration to make their school and individual lives a success.
My students come from different personal and learning backgrounds; however, they are all seeking an adventure from their everyday lives. With support, they will reach their goals academically and personally.
My Project
Can you imagine a seventh-grade student sitting in an English class watching the clock count down the minutes until they get to leave? Can you imagine a seventh-grade student being asked multiple times to close their book in an English class after independent reading time, but they struggle because they are so immersed in their novel's story?
A classroom library with new, relevant books is essential to keeps students engaged!
A teacher can have tons of books on their shelves, but if they aren't relevant to what middle schoolers are going through today, none of them will be picked up and read. We need help restocking our shelves with new and exciting books!
Each book we receive will be a book talked about to the class and students will continuously have time and access to these incredible books, as well as time to discuss these amazing stories.
