Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students walk into my classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. I teach at a Title I school in New York where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of my students receive backpacks with supplies in the beginning of the school year, and our school also runs a food pantry for our families.
Our school serves students in pre-k through fifth grades and provides rigorous academics, fantastic teachers and a safe learning environment.
Our goal is to prepare our students for success in middle school, high school and college. However, there are times when we do not have the supplies we need.
My Project
I want to instill a love for reading in my classroom and one way I can do that is with new and exciting books for students to read. Over the last few years, I have noticed more of my students interested in graphic novels. Therefore, I have set out to find as many graphic novels as possible because I want them to love reading as much as I do. With these books, students will be able to read and share what is happening in these exciting stories with their reading partners. They will be able to create book recommendations so that others will want to read these books too.
