This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 4th grade students are energetic and hard working. They love to learn and interact with their environment, using a hands-on approach to learning. This group of students comes from a wide variety of backgrounds ethnically, culturally and financially. The majority of our students are bilingual. This year being online so far we have 2 classes combined so there are many more students with all different abilities.

Over 80% of the students in our school receive free and reduced-price lunch and are from low economic backgrounds.

I strive to give them opportunities they might not otherwise experience.

Fourth grade can be a real turning point for learning and developing for many children. They are still "little kids," but they are growing up fast, so it is important to keep them excited and interested in learning.

My Project

This year has been a lot of learning how to teach in new and different ways. With many students falling farther behind with all the craziness in the last year I do not have enough books for all of their levels. Many of my books are simply too hard and frustrating.

Having appropriate books for readers of all levels for independent and free choice reading makes a huge difference.

Adding lower difficulty books to my library will make a difference for many of my students. They all want to read and I want to provide them with more books they can read and enjoy.
