My Students

The students at our school are resilient and kind. The last year and a half has been a challenge for people all over the world, and the children in my class have faced those challenges with unbelievable understanding and flexibility. In addition to the pandemic, I have just taken over this class from another teacher whose medical needs have prevented her from being here for the last two months. Unfortunately, this has not provided these kids with very much consistency this year. We are also part of a low income community, and many of my students do not have a comfortable place to feel safe and relaxed enough that they can allow themselves to focus on their academics.

Despite all of this, my students come to class with smiles on their face and eager to see what each day will bring them.

I am continually impressed with their exuberant energy and interest in whatever we're doing in class. My goal is to create a classroom community that is inclusive and comfortable for all students, so that they have every opportunity to succeed and thrive!

My Project

I feel grateful for the supplies and books that were left in this classroom by the previous teacher, but many of them are upwards of 20 years old. Many of my students are very excited about reading, but I think that a fresh set of books may reinvigorate other kids to put their nose in a book.

Additionally, our classroom is full of diversity and I would love to have books that tell stories that reflect the many different lives and stories of my students.

I truly think that these new books would beautifully fill out our little classroom library, while also sparking a sense of pride and ownership in each student's reading abilities.
