My Project

My students all come from diverse backgrounds and want to read books from a variety of authors and illustrators. The majority of my students are African American and Black History Month is essential to their understanding of their history and culture. Students have also started looking at new releases and requesting tons of books each week. I also want them to see themselves in books that they read. They are also asking to get the newest books in the series.

My students need exposure to their history and culture as well as seeing themselves in the literature they read.

Reading opens up their world by expanding their vocabulary, knowledge and imagination. Many of these books also have great social emotional themes to help students in our school deal with these feelings.
