New Art Trays

My students need new art trays! The paint trays they are currently using are falling apart. These new trays would allow each class to have its own signature color.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Harwell's classroom raised $1,552

My Students

My students are amazing artists, but they need help staying organized. Keeping up with materials and incomplete artwork is much easier using our tray method. The only problem is our trays are breaking.

I teach 5th and 6th grade art.

My students are very talented! This year we designed artwork for our new School Based Health Center. My students mastered acrylic painting. They painted self-portraits and family portraits for our Health Center. Last year we wrote a book about our town. We created pen and ink illustrations of many things that make our town a special place to call home. Last year we won two second place state awards for our pen and ink illustrations. This year one of my students had her self-portrait chosen for the state art exhibit. Her painting will travel the state and even be on display at Children's Hospital. Our school is very proud of its Art Department. Our teachers value the arts and understand how important a strong art education is for our students.

My Project

My husband built shelves so my students would have a place to store individual art trays. Building the shelves was easy, but finding trays I could afford was a mess. We needed a tray that could hold an incomplete art project and a few materials for each student. I teach six 50 minute classes a day (28 students per class). That's a lot of trays. The trays are very helpful when we are working on projects like paper collages. It's easy to store all of the small pieces. Having individual trays allows each student to come back and pick up right where he / she left off the day before. Before I used trays I spent 10-15 minutes of each class passing work back to students. That is time we don't have. The only trays I could afford were paint trays from the dollar store. Unfortunately, they simply haven't held up. The fronts and sides are breaking off. They are just not strong enough to withstand daily use. These new trays are strong, and each class could have its own color.

My students love having their own space.

It's almost like having a locker in my class. The trays help my students stay organized. My students keep up with their work until its ready to be turned in and graded. I can't imagine being without this tool. It would be nice to not have to constantly replace broken trays. These new trays are strong and they are different colors. That would make it so easy to find a student's tray. Each class could have its own color. We would love them!
