We have a limited budget to work with, so we wouldn't be able to bring as many opportunities to our students if it weren't for the help of donors like you. \r\n We kicked off our project by reading the book \"Beauty and the Beak\" by Deborah Lee Rose and Jane Veltkamp. Through the story, students were able to read about Beauty, an eagle whose beak was badly damaged by a gunshot. Beauty was rescued but faced severe limitations until a group of people worked together to 3D print a new beak for her.\r\n Students then got to brainstorm other things that could be 3D printed that would help other people or solve problems that they have noticed. The students came up with some great ideas such as filters to collect trash from beaches, table corner covers to protect young children from getting hurt, and customizable casts with air holes so that as one student said, \"your skin does not stink\" as opposed to what can happen with traditional plaster casts.\r\n Afterwards, students got to see our 3D printer in action as we used it build a collection of fidgets and calm-down tools for teachers to keep in their classroom for students to use as needed. Teachers have reported that these have been very helpful tools to have in their classrooms.\r\n Thank you again for your support.","fullyFundedDate":1759323665672,"projectUrl":"project/printing-with-a-purpose/9771134/","projectTitle":"Printing with a Purpose","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Odom","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2556923_orig.jpg?crop=172,172,x0,y28&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1759155968200","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2556923"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_56418","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":581,"numTeachers":51,"percentFrplEligible":69,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":45,"percentWhite":39,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":9,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"5 - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"11.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":60.0,"schoolId":56418,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Washington Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Washington Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/arkansas/el-dorado-school-district/washington-middle-school/56418"}
