Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have the privilege to work with incredible human beings. My students come to school prepared and ready to learn, regardless of the hardships they may be facing. I teach at a Title I school in San Diego, with a very high immigrant population and where the entire student body receives free breakfast and lunch.
Their social and financial disadvantage does not keep them from challenging their potential and from expanding their knowledge as critical thinkers.
My fourth graders are part of a Dual Immersion Program where they learn half of the day in Spanish and the other half in English. I make it very clear that knowing and learning in two languages already puts them at a high advantage and make them feel proud of being bilingual every day!
My Project
Concept review occurs in my classroom on a daily basis. Wether we are solving math problems, trying on grammar rules or expressing opinions, students need the necessary tools to do so.
Dry erase boards are the best way to promote classroom engagement in an effective, interactive and fun way.
Right now we use post-it notes and scratch paper to record our thinking, but imagine how beneficial it would be to engage every child in my classroom on a single lesson. We will not only save paper, but engage and interact in whole group, small group and team work. Students will be able to manipulate all concepts with the tip of their fingers as they grasp new understandings and transform their thoughts. Having an easel board will allow us to take these mini lessons and interactions anywhere in our classroom and as students work, I can easily monitor and assess their progress.
By donating to this project you are helping my students engage and stay motivated in every content lesson, every single day!
