My students need replacement filter cartridges, stress coat, and aquarium test strips to keep the Donor Reef aquarium for the next calendar year.

My Students

Our reef tank donation last year has brought a change in our students. Attendance, grades, and a sense of a larger community has started. The students, last April, started a club called Accelere Aquatic Society which maintains the donated reef aquarium plus student career development.

The Accelere Program offers opportunities for students 17 years of age and older, who are in need of additional flexibility or interested in extended day study for an accelerated approach to earning credits.

Students participate in intensive face-to-face classroom instruction in order to work toward completion of high school graduation requirements. Both required courses and elective courses are offered.

My Project

This activity is to inspire students to use their writing skills to write a proposal to seek additional avenues to acquire the supplies they need to maintain the Donor Reef. The replacement filter cartridge, stress coat, and aquarium test strips will be used daily to check the perimeters on the reef for their marine life. The students will see that they can compose and publish materials for the global society that they can be a part of. This activity also develops the students to be long term goal orientated verse short term focused. This will drive the students to seek higher levels of experience and education in the future by reinforcing occupational focus in their class course work. Our president of the society has added the following information: This activity allows myself to express my hopes, dream, and desires. Every morning I come to Mr. Graham classroom to see the reef tank that my society keeps. We as a group learn business and finance along with responsibility. Thank you.

The Donor Reef provides course content, enrichment, application and a pathway to other opportunities. Our president of the society has added the following information: From this donation we can fund our Donor Reef for the year while learning about science processed through real life application. We as a student body get to experience science "hands on".
