Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students live in a reservation town. The student population at our school includes migrant students, children of farmworkers, children of meatpacking workers, Native American children, and all in a very small town.
My classroom contains upper elementary students.
I have two students who have special needs ranging from autism to developmental delay. I have three students who take medication for Attention Deficit Disorder and need special resources to help them stay focused and successful. There are many levels of English language learners. Most kids can speak English, but many struggle to learn important vocabulary. They live in an economically depressed area. They need positive engineering experiences to dream of a better future.
My Project
My students are faced with the sudden task of learning from home during this COVID-19 pandemic. Staying home safe is the best option. Finishing their 5th-grade year in STEM is a special opportunity to learn their lessons in a different way.
Students need a science book, school materials, and healthy protein-based snacks to meet their unique emotional and academic needs.
Having these materials at their individual homes gives students equal opportunities to complete lessons. Knowing that they have what they need to complete the online activities, gives me peace of mind.
