Needed! Non-Fiction Stories About Immigrants for Immigrant Students!

My students need books that are scaffolded at their language level as well as their interest, this will help them expand their English language skills while being engaged and interested in the reading materials.

My Students

I teach English Language Learners ranging from WIDA levels 1 to 5, the majority of my students are immigrant refugees and only a small number of the students have been in a formal school setting.

My classroom is an inclusive area but it is also an academically challenging space where the students can grow mentally and emotionally.

My students are excited to learn, and to grow their English language skills and be able to do whatever they want in their life.

My Project

The Green Card Youth Voices series will make a difference in my students' learning and improve their school lives because they will see themselves in the material. These books will allow the students to not only increase their English Language skills but also increase their connection to other immigrants.

Many of my students are immigrants and refugees and they don't see their stories told with the same importance of other topics, this will change that for them.

My students will be able to read and reflect on stories that are similar and different to themselves, making them more connected to their community and increasing their English Language skills and self confidence.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
