My Students

Do you remember being in math class doing your absolute best to focus on the lesson? Propping your head up with your arms, bouncing your legs, twiddling your thumbs? Those are not my students.

My students are constantly engaged, actively participate, and work hard to stay on task.

I am a math teacher for fifth graders in a low-socioeconomic district. A lot of my students don't have books, access to technology, or time for homework. But you wouldn't know that when they step into the school doors. They are enthusiastic and engaged, caring and compassionate. Everyday, they come to school excited to learn.

My Project

Teaching fifth grade math is my passion! I love teaching students new ways to view numbers, and how to show their learning with different strategies. Unfortunately, this involves a lot of seat work.

Between my mini-lesson, rotations, and independent practice, my students can end of sitting for 2 hours.

I do my best to get them moving with brain breaks and hands-on lessons, but they still need to have time for seat work. I would love for students to be comfortable while working. Flexible seating would allow my students to wiggle, wobble, or even stand while completing their work or even during my lessons.
