Need Music to Sooth the Soul

My Students

My students are bright, inquisitive, and eager to learn! My classroom is composed of children from a wide range of cultural backgrounds and academic abilities. I have many students who live in single-parent homes and qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Their lack of resources can make it difficult for them to have access to the resources necessary to dive deep into the type of learning that will help them develop into life-long learners.

From the first day they walk into my classroom, they are my kids, and my goal is to discover their interests, likes, dislikes, and what motivates them.

This can be difficult given some of their home-life experiences and limited resources, but together we focus on their strengths, and obtainable goals so each experiences success. Regardless of their home life, I want them each to feel loved, safe and valued in my classroom, after all,​ we are a family. One way I do that is to provide them with emotional support, and a variety of resources that will help them have what they need to be successful, regardless of where they are academically.

My Project

My student comes from vastly diverse backgrounds and challenges. Each of my students struggles with behavior issues, such as aggression, anger management, and self-control. They often bring their phones to class and want to listen to music. Unfortunately, phones are a huge issue as students are using them to be on social media and text during class, so they are not allowed to have them at their desks. However, I want them to have access to their music as a coping skill, blocking out distractions, and to help them focus. I want to provide my students with Bluetooth headphones so that they are able to listen to their music privately as needed while keeping their phones put away, as required.
