My Students

This community has been greatly impacted by Hurricane Harvey. Our families have lived in tents on the property of the city's civic center, moved in with relatives, and stayed at local hotels. Prior to the storm, this was a low socioeconomic area. With the loss of housing and even some jobs, it has gotten even worse.

Through all of the setbacks, we have the best little school around.

Our students are smart and very eager to learn. They come to school daily with a willingness to become better students. There is a clear team with the parents as well. They are willing to do whatever it takes to help the students be successful.

My Project

Having materials for each student for each activity can be very challenging. We want to ensure that all students have the opportunity to gain personal knowledge and experiences, but the means are not always available. When the students actually get to experience the experiment first-hand, they usually retain the concepts better.

Multiple stopwatches will allow us to have smaller groups providing pace variations.

In the event more time is needed to grasp the concept of speed, each group can work at their own pace. Each student will have gum which would allow them to have personal experiences and gain personal knowledge.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
