Many of my students do not have calculators and other necessary school supplies to make learning easier. Three years ago I obtained a classroom set of calculators through Donors Choose. However, with 90 sixth grade students using them multiple times a day, a few of them need to be replaced. Our math and science curriculums have online components that requires students to listen to videos at times. Many of the students do not have earbuds. A large pack of earbuds will allow students to keep a pair in the classroom. Although calculators are an excellent tool for complex problems, I do not want my students to become calculator dependant. Therefore, I am asking for a set of dry-erase boards and markers to use in class.
These school supplies will allow all my students a sense of equality by allowing all students the same opportunities to have some of the necessary supplies.
By having a classroom set of calculators, earbuds, and dry-erase boards, it will be less apparent when students do not have supplies of their own.
