The students truly saw it as a gift. The eighth graders were shocked. This is their third year woking with me, and they noticed right away that the old, brown chairs were gone. One of my seventh graders made a joke when he walked in. \"Mrs. Baker, I like what you did with the room. You moved the pencil sharpener, right?\" My sixth graders tried to be cool. They commented on liking the black material with polka dots. Others commented on the wonderful chairs, too. The book nook is in a prominent spot in front of the large window my classroom shares with the hallway. Middle schoolers and colleagues have\r\nentered the room to say, \"Wow! That looks like a great place to read.\" \r\n\r\nHaving new, comfortable chairs was an incentive for my students who find reading a challenge to start the new year with a good book. Who can pass up reading when the chairs are now so inviting? With my larger classes, the students have set up their own schedule so everyone gets a turn. It has been a pleasure to see them take this initiative. I'm also allowing the students to sit in the chairs to complete assignments. If they want to get their work done, I'm not going to stop them.","fullyFundedDate":1767196282691,"projectUrl":"project/chairs-for-challenged-to-champion-reader/9676596/","projectTitle":"Chairs for Challenged-to-Champion Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Baker","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10239072"},{"teacherId":9518414,"projectId":9656704,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generosity and supporting my students. They were eager to explore the supplies and learn how each tool could help them meet their individual learning needs. A calmer environment supports better concentration and more thoughtful collaboration.\r\n\r\nOne of the most engaging aspects of the lights is their flexibility. While I control the settings, adjusting the lighting for different activities has helped set the tone for learning. The fidgets have been invaluable in our inclusive, co-taught classroom, providing options for students who need help regulating themselves so they can be more successful in our room. Finally, the activities and games have been a fantastic tool for building essential growth mindset and social skills. These items have been a wonderful community-building tool. My students love to challenge themselves with the activities, as well as work together as a team to solve problems, or simply enjoy time off devices and playing a game together.. The sixth, seventh, and eighth graders that I teach were excited when the new games were delivered. It felt like Christmas morning! They volunteered to help take the plastic off the boxes and shuffle the decks of cards. Some of the students have asked to play with me. That's wonderful, because I love seeing how they're thinking while they play. Others have asked if they can try the games on their own. This is great, too! I've overheard them READING the rules, discussing the rules, and then modifying them if they need to. The modifications they make are always to help a struggling classmate. What teacher wouldn't feel proud about that? \r\n\r\nMy last class of the day especially likes playing Play on Words and Blurt. The boys that play Play on Words challenge each other to find words spelled with four letters instead of just three. The students that play Blurt are expanding their vocabulary by providing additional clues to help others get to the correct answer. \r\n\r\nAll of the games have been played and will continue to be played throughout this year and in future years.
