Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Rambunctious, energetic, wiggly, noisy, curious, creative, diverse. These are the synonyms for the students at my school. They all come with their own background and stories, their own struggles. Many are trying to learn English. Most eat breakfast, lunch, and sometimes dinner at school. Some are struggling readers, while others are still working on their basic math facts.
Giving these kids an opportunity to shine and make their voices heard through musical theater is my passion.
For some, this is the only place they feel success at school.
My Project
Some of the most at-risk students in our district attend my school. I have watched these kids as we’ve started to build up our performing arts programs at our school. I have seen the hardest to reach students bloom and thrive as they choose to participate.

They (children) have an enthusiasm for life, a spark of creativity, and vivid imaginations that need training--training that prepares them to become confident young men and women,” said Richard W. Riley, Former US Secretary of Education.
With your help, we will provide some of the necessary costume pieces and props to this very poverty stricken and diverse group of kids. We'll bring the seafaring/mermaid world to life with sailor caps, fish hats, a nautical ship wheel, and clear umbrellas with fairy lights (to make large jelly fish).
Your donation will help the students performing in this play and bring pride and joy to the audience—including those from the community and over 900 students who will be watching.
