My Project

Using natural materials in the classroom allows for the students imagination to run wild. I would like to bring a sense of nature into my classroom to allow my students to learn and explore in their own way using the materials around them.

Natural made toys from wood can create a sense of calmness and imagination for a child.

I work with 3-5 year olds and many children are entertained by their tablets or TV when they are out of school. This allows children to not only play with toys that are made from sustainable materials but to also think of creative ways to make something new. With the loose parts set children can use the pieces to tell stories or build pictures. They can create letters or words out of materials. Loose parts and wooden materials have endless possibilities. Students won't need to glue or paint these materials so they can be used again and again in different ways.

While playing my students get to build on their social emotional skills by interacting with their peers. This is extremely important in my classroom since a majority of my students are English Language Learners. These materials will be shared with my students during center time and small group instruction. Children will build on their literacy and mathematical skills. They will also use these materials in our Discovery Center (Science) to observe and explore nature around them.
