Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 6th grade in a low income school. My school is located in a predominantly Spanish speaking community.
My students love comic books. There are book sets that are called graphic novels. Graphic novels are written and drawn like comic books, but they are considered novels. My girls enjoy the couple that we have, but I know that more students would read for leisure if I had more to offer.
In getting this sets of novels, my students would be motivated to read. They have wonderful pictures and the story lines are intriguing. Comic books have always had a wide market for boys. The "Nancy Drew " Series is targeted towards girls. This is a wonderful way to get girls into graphic novels but appealing to their "comic-like" appearance. The students would be reading a great book and they feel as if it is a comic book.
The only exposure to a library that some of my students have is my library and I would like them to have a variety to choose from. I would like my students to have access to the new reading material that is out there. This is a perfect example. Reading is supposed to be fun. The Nancy Drew Series was popular back in its day. Now it is making a come back in the graphic novels format. Please help this generation enjoy that series as much as you did when you were a kid.
