My nineteen students come from various backgrounds and have different experiences, but we all come together when it's time to learn. In just a few days, we've already built a positive climate where students are willing to take educational risks and simply enjoy learning.
We do an annual competition among our grade level called the Mystery Challenge; a few of my students struggle with grade level books, so Young Cam Jansen will allow them to complete the challenge on their independent reading levels.
Some of my students do not have access to books or technology outside of class, so I try to expose them to books and technology and help get them college and career ready, even though they're only third graders! My students are excited about learning - they enjoy the thrill of technology and the integration of project-based learning! We just need help managing it all!
My Project
Our librarian challenges our third graders every year to read and pass assessments on six "Mystery Challenge" books. Our above-average and on-grade level students read the Cam Jansen and A to Z Mysteries series, but our lower-level readers struggle to read these independently. Having the Young Cam Jansen book series will enable these lower achieving students to see success in the classroom and fit in with their peers. All students who meet this challenge get to participate in a party with the librarian and a special guest. Having the Young Cam Jansen series available to the struggling students will allow them to be included in this wonderful opportunity.
