My Students Voted for These Books!

My students need 23 books which I know they want to read. How can I be so sure? I asked them...and these are the books they voted for!

Hooray! This project is fully funded

If you have kids or younger siblings, one thing is for sure - you know that they are NEVER satisfied with what they get. The same seems true for my students, 8th graders in a New York public school. In my three Language Arts classes, because of the little funding that I receive from my school, I can never have the classroom library that my students are happy with...until now!

There are not many books that are currently in my library that my kids want to read. And if you want to read one of the "popular" books, well, then you will have to sit on the waiting list, sometimes for weeks! To end all further conflicts, I put the power in the hands of my kids. They were given the opportunity to vote on book titles that they would want in their classroom as soon as possible. I took the top titles which received the most votes. Now that I have identified their most desired reading material, only one thing stands in the way of having the best library in my school... getting the books!

That's where YOU come in! By providing my classroom library with these "hot" selections, I will have peace from my students' demands to obtain the "new, cool" books. And on top of that, my students will have their dream library! Some books that received the most votes are vampire books (what a shock!), realistic fiction dealing with the Internet, and books dealing with situations and obstacles that they deal with every day! Just imagine the looks on their faces when they'll be able to read the "most popular" books that they actually selected themselves! Is there anything better than that? I don't think so!

By funding or helping to fund this proposal, you will ensure that my three classes will have books on hand that they are head over heels for. This will make their final year of middle school and transition into high school much more pleasant. You can't understand how valuable it is for these students to be able to curl up with a book they want to read in the middle of a hectic and demanding day of junior high. These books will make an immediate and serious impact on my classroom and my three classes of students.
