Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are unique and talented individuals. However, sometimes they don't even know it! My job is to nurture their creativity and help them create something beautiful and meaningful through music.
Imagine being able to walk into a music classroom and not just sing a song or learn a new dance (which we do anyway!) But, to sit down with your peers and create something that comes from your heart, to create music, which would leave a legacy?
That's what I am hoping this project will accomplish.
My Project
My music students are extremely talented! I work hard with them every year to get them to explore their creativity with music and the performing arts. The chorus performs in three shows a year: a holiday concert, a spring concert and graduation. All my other music students celebrate music during a select week in May, when all the teachers and parents are invited to watch special performances from all music classes.
The shows that my students perform in are the talk of the school, however, the one complaint they usually have is how difficult it was to hear them!
We are a low income, Title 1 school. These students need the glorious outlet that is the performing arts. They need a sound system to bring their voices to the next level.
The materials I am requesting include the sound system with microphone headsets and accessories such as rechargeable batteries for the mic packs and a wire to connect it to the school's speakers. During musical performances, the microphones would help singing and speaking soloists be heard by allowing them to project over an audience. In the classroom, I would use the microphones to encourage students to speak out more and diminish any fear they may have of public speaking. Since the microphones are hands-free, students would still be able to move as they desire, without tripping over wires, or getting awful feedback. The rechargeable batteries mean we wouldn't worry about running low on power!
Soloists are usually drowned out by the vastness that is our auditorium and the floor microphone we have been using has surely seen better days (over a decade ago, I'm sure!)
