This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have been working for nine years in a Title I middle school full of students who absolutely love music. Over these years, I have helped grow our program to include as many opportunities for my students to experience, no matter what their home economic status is. Last spring, I started the first-ever show choir at my school. During this first full year, I have 50 students in the ensemble and we have performed 12 times. Three of those were competitions, and they won first place at their very first one!

Due to the economic status of the district I work in and the area of city where my school is located, funding for show choir is nonexistent; so I have spent much of my own money, which as you can imagine is not easy on a teacher's salary.

Despite my willingness to do whatever it takes to help my students succeed, there are a few items I simply cannot afford to buy myself, which is why I am creating this DonorsChoose request.

Right now our rehearsal space has no working sound system. I have been taking my keyboard amp and hooking up my laptop for sound. Having this system would mean better sound quality to hear all parts of the music, and it is easier to take with us to competitions. The mirrors are extremely important in learning choreography and stage presence. These were both consistent comments we received from the judges at competitions.

Having this DonorsChoose project funded would mean the world to me because it would mean I could provide better opportunities for my kids to succeed. I want them to know they can do anything other schools can do, even without the funding they have. They deserve it!
