Bill Gates shared, "Technology is just a tool. In terms of getting the kids working together and motivating them, the teacher is the most important." Since we live in a technological world, teachers need to continue learning. I would love the opportunity to learn more about Windows 8 computers.
Our Pre K-5th grade school is one of the feeder schools in our home town.
Our town is a close knit community and we have wonderful students here! Our school has about 550 students. I teach Reading Intervention to students in grades K-3rd. With the new Common Core Curriculum implemented, we are all trying our best to move forward and do what is best for our children. They are and will always be our number ONE priority! However, we do not have many Windows 8 computers. I have a personal goal to learn how to work with a Windows 8 laptop. I would love to have one to use with my eager students eventually. To do this, I need to back step a bit and be the student once again. I am more than willing to do that because, in the long run, I know that not only I will benefit from this, but my students will too.
My Project
I would love to learn more about Windows 8, however, our school does not have many Windows 8 computers. I really want to LEARN more, so I met with our school tech person about attaining one with this grant. She encouraged me to try. Together, we set up a plan of action for Professional Development. It would include meeting 1 on 1 to guide me in learning more. The lesson plan for this journey would mean meeting for 3 meetings to help me understand Windows 8 better and how to implement it later on. In addition to that, my mentor gathered professional development articles and tutorials to aid my journey. Windows 8 is a different format, so I know I have a lot to learn. Through the use of the requested laptop, I will be guided on my learning path. Our plan includes striving for 2 goals. Goal 1 includes Windows 8 hands-on lessons for me to learn more while the next goal lies with me guiding students later on. Before I get to goal 2, though, I have to become a student and learn about Windows 8.

In terms of getting the kids working together and motivating them, the teacher is the most important." Please help me help myself with this rare opportunity that would enable me as a teacher, to learn more about the use of Windows 8 computers in academic settings. It is time, for me to step back and become involved as a student again. I will strive to become a better educator. Can you help me with this journey as a student and teacher?
